Guava's can be eaten fresh but are often used to flavor drinks, desserts, sauces, preserves, and many other food products. Java Fern Narrow Leaf The leaves are as the name suggests and has a narrow and long shape. The delicate-looking fern adds a beautiful look to aquariums and is widely used due to its slow growth, unique shape, and ease of reproduction and care.

Warm soil temperature (70-85F) is important in germination. Named after the island of Java, this plant is native to Malaysia, Thailand, Northern India and parts of China. Seedlings can show variability, but generally come fairly true to their parent. The specific variety is often propagated by grafting, air-layering and root cuttings. Propagation by adventitious shoots and rhizome splitting. Can tolerate slightly brackish conditions. Best attached to decorations in the aquarium such as wood and rock. The guava will tolerate poor soils, but grows much better when fertilized monthly, or when grown in soil that is high in organic material. Narrow Leaf Java fern is a slow growing but easy to care for plant. After sending out a new shoot, one leaf has opened and is showing the redness already.
MALAYSIAN RED JAVA FERN UPDATE

If planted in the bottom, do not cover the rhizome because it will rot. To be grown on a root or stone, attached with fishing line until it has gained a hold. Guava's are shallow rooted and prefer lots of moisture throughout the year (except if cold), although they will withstand periods of drought, as well as dry seasonal changes. Microsorum pteropus is a water fern from Asia, 15-30 cm tall. Let the glue dry for 15 to 20 minutes, then place it in your aquarium. Then, press the Java fern’s rhizome, or the horizontal, stem-like structure below the leaves, onto the glue for 30 seconds. There may be multiple fruiting and flowering seasons throughout the year, depending on local climate conditions. Just place a dab of super glue gel on the rock, wood, or other object where you want the fern to grow. Flowers will self-pollinate and fruit develops in a few months. Generally, guava's are fairly adaptable and will flourish with little care. The plant kills the leaf so the babies can float away and establish new colonies of java fern. Usually the black leaves will be covered with baby java ferns. It is a natural part of this plant's life cycle. If trying to grow in a marginal climate, plant near a building or provide some sort of protection from damaging cold winds and rain. 'Java fern routinely develops black leaves with decay.

Guava's grow well in full sun, except in hot regions, where partial shade is beneficial. Trees generally flower during summer with fruits ripening during winter months.
